Fishing Dictionary

Fishermen never have to ask their wives if they can go fishing. They do, however, have to ask them if they can go home.

Fishing Dictionary

Arc-tic Gray-ling: (ark'tik gra'ling) n. a large fish usually found in Canada and Alaska. Time to fish for it -- 2 hours before you arrive at your fishing spot or shortly after you leave. Lures to use to fish for it: any thing not in your tackle box or in any of your fishing books.

Bucket: (bu-ket') n. a clumsy form of metallic footgear found on fishing boats.

Camera: (cam'-er-a) n. a small, but quite heavy object used by anglers to store small amounts of water and a canister of spoiled film.

Catch-and-release: (katch-and-re_lees) v. 1.a term used in a public stretch of public stream where all fish caught must be released. 2.a term used in a private stretch of stream where all fishermen caught must be released after a series of threats, a long lecture, and a brief introduction to a very large dog.

Fishing: (fish'ing) n. the art of casting, trolling, jigging, or spinning while freezing, sweating, swatting, or swearing.

Habitat: (ha-bit-tat') n. a place where a particular species of fish was last week.

Hook: (hook) n. a pointy, annoying yet useful device used to locate the position of one's thumb in the bottom of a tackle box.

Sinker: (sin'ker) n. a lead weight attached to a length of fishing line to facilitate the speedy disposal of unwanted lures.

Tent: (tent) n. a cumbersome device composed of fabric and tubing used by fishermen camping in the woods to collect specimens of local insects.
